Taliban says U.S. preparing for military operation

DUBAI: U.S. warplanes landed in Islamabad ahead of a possible military operation against the Afghan Taliban, a Taliban representative in Abu Dhabi told AFP. "U.S. planes landed in Islamabad, and they could be on a mission against Afghanistan," said Aziz Rahman, third secretary at the "embassy of the Islamic emirate of Afghanistan," in Abu Dhabi.

The Jazira satellite television channel, broadcasting from Qatar, reported earlier that several dozen commandoes had landed in the Pakistani capital as a prelude to an operation against Osama Bin Laden. Bin Laden, an exiled Saudi millionaire and Islamic militant , is thought by the U.S. to be responsible for bomb attacks on the U.S. embassies in Nairobi and Dar Es Salaam one year ago, which killed more than 200 people. He is based in Afghanistan. AFP report.
