what, in laymans terms would you think was the reasonable lifespan of a fully outputing gle sofc unit.

Sorry EIGHT-N, I'm not as up on the "techie" stuff as you seem to think ... I don't have an answer for you. But I do know this ...

The life span varies a great deal based on the temperature that the unit is running at. Degradation of the cell is more severe at higher temperatures. Something else that adds to the degradation problem is the "thermal cycling" of the cell -- the number of times the cell is "turned on and off" allowing it to cool down and then come back to high heat.

Having said that, I also know that ...

GLE has proven via their recent test results that they are making good advances in running the cell at lower temperatures (without significant power loss). Furthermore, their web-site claims they have made advances using materials that are not as adversely affected by the "thermal cycling".
