Yup, Jr. . .you are correct. I'll bet I heard them mentioned NEM 3 times on CNBC today. That's why it is in the Metals / Mining portfolio. Some prefer PDG and NEM. . . I prefer ABX, AU and ASL . . some like Chevys. . some Fords.

As it turns out, the best performing gold stock from our portfolio [built July 21] was GOLD, then ASL. . .but what I am focused on is the unusual volume on today. Below is the percentage gain in the portfolio, then the percentage of 30 day avg. volume . . . then today's change:

GOLD. . . . +23.33 pct . . . .327 pct of 30 day vol . . +6.73 pct
ASL . . . . +20.43 pct . . . .133 pct of 30 day vol. . .+4.67 pct
AU. . . . . +16.62 pct . . . .167 pct of 30 day vol. . .+3.55 pct
NEM. . . . .+14.38 pct . . . .153 pct of 30 day vol. . .+9.51 pct
ABX. . . . .+13.68 pct . . . .185 pct of 30 day vol. . .+5.18 pct
MDG. . . . .+11.43 pct . . . .015 pct of 30 day vol. . .+1.30 pct
HM. . . . . +10.32 pct . . . .397 pct of 30 day vol. . .+8.59 pct
PDG. . . . .+ 6.13 pct . . . .103 pct of 30 day vol. . .+6.79 pct

Now this tells us that the two American mining stocks, NEM and HM are getting put in the spotlight here. . .Volume on HM was extraordinary at 3 times the average daily volume. GOLD was also hot today.

It is too bad that NEM and HM both show a negative profit margin of -20 or more percent. By contrast, Barrick gold shows a +28 percent profit margin. But then this is not a CONTEST to show which stock is better. . . .it is rather about which one yields the best return, based on bids and offers. . . so the "best" stock doesn't always win.

And that is why we play a basket of 7-10 stocks in this sector and accept the gains from the basket over trying to pick the one or two winners and worry if we selected correctly.
