Glenn - re: the chess game. I had an interesting "debate" with an acquaintance who is chummy with the Mayor of LA. (Said Mayor supports closed access and the att plan.) This person's rationale was that it was very expensive to build out the infrastructure and thus warranted proprietary closed access. My response was "why not lease" space to ISP's and let the people choose their service. He didn't like that idea. I countered that the phone co's lease space - response: "they wouldn't have unless the govt. forced them to."

So, the "big money" vs. "little people" rolls on. Not sure about the ATT/AOL rumor that was floated. Judging by the responses, almost feels like disinformation.
