Does this mean CPQ will supply $20 million in hardware/services? STING has had his hey day and is on the back end of his career. They should have picked someone else. Also, the kickoff of the concert happens at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, which is off the main strip and not a very popular spot. Fez ____________________________ Tuesday August 10 12:37 AM ET Compaq Looks To Sting For 'A Brand New Day' NEW YORK (Reuters) - If this fall you hear Sting crooning from your computer, it is not a ghost in the machine, it's a multi-million dollar marketing campaign that Compaq Computer Corp. (NYSE:CPQ - news) hopes will signal the new leadership of recently named Chief Executive Michael Capellas. The marketing campaign, reportedly valued at $20 million, includes a co-branded Web site that will follow musician Sting on his ``Brand New Day' tour, with a simultaneous launch of Compaq's branding campaign featuring the single. Compaq, the world's No. 1 personal computer maker, faces falling profits and intensifying competition. It is unclear whether Capellas will find Synchronicity in his new post or if he'll be the King of Pain. He said last month the company would cut up to 8,000 jobs, or 11 percent of its workforce, in an effort to gain footing against fast-growing rival Dell Computer Corp. (Nasdaq:DELL - news) . Compaq reported a second quarter loss of 10 cents per share, and warned it would take a third quarter charge of $700 million to $900 million for the sweeping job cuts. While Compaq is hoping for ``A Brand New Day,' Sting is looking to boost his visibility, and may even appear in the television commercials, a spokeswoman said.
