Shell Canada Ltd - NP says Shell Canada teams up with others in Alberta Shell Canada Ltd SHC Shares issued 289,178,840 1999-08-09 close $31.2 Tuesday Aug 10 1999 The National Post reports in its Tuesday edition that a team of Canadians, Americans and Australians on the verge of getting laid off from Broken Hill Proprietary Co. Ltd. of Australia have become partners in Shell Canada Ltd.'s $3.8-billion oil sands project in northern Alberta. Shell Canada has been looking for new oil sands partners since Melbourne-based BHP pulled out of the project earlier this year. Shell Canada said Western Oil Sands Inc., a company formed by 25 employees assigned by BHP to the venture, and Chevron Canada Resources Ltd., a unit of San Francisco-based Chevron Corp., will each acquire a 20-per-cent interest if the project gets final corporate approval later this year. Shell retains 60 per cent. Shell's investment is among more than $20-billion in oil sands and heavy oil projects proposed by several oil companies for northern Alberta. Provided Shell gives its final approval, Western Oil Sands will go public in the fourth quarter as a pure oil sands play. It will attempt to raise between $300-million and $350-million. The money will be used to pay for its share of development costs.
