DownSouth,

They are hired to justify or validate a decision that has already been made or to implement a solution already selected.

Hired guns. Sometimes you have to walk away when faced with these situations if you are staunch about certain principles, and it could be expensive to say the least to abide by those principles. And sometimes you are asked to leave. It goes with the territory.

You are absolutely correct about the prevalence of this type of occurrence where predestiny is concerned. I actually had a big six firm [at the time] call us in to do this very sort of thing for their own internal infrastructure recommendations, and when our conclusions didn't gear up with their desired outcome, they politely found someone else to handle that task. But when they needed the depth of a more demanding situation filled for one of their own clients, they came right back and played according to our terms. And so it goes.
