IMF: Credit Tranche Shows US Trust In Habibie Govt, Expert Says

New York, Aug 5 (ANTARA)-The credit approbation of the
International Monetary Fund (IMF) to Indonesia shows the trust
of the United States, as the biggest IMF contributor, to
Habibie's government, said the economic expert Achyar Hanif here
Wednesday.

"This is proof that the IMF and the US government trusts the
present government, which has showed a strong commitment from
Habibie to conclude the agreement with the international
financial institution," he said, commenting on US$460 million
credit tranche for economic recovery on Tuesday (Aug 3).

According to him, this IMF policy has also proven that Habibie's
government has used the funds in the prover way, not for money
politics which it has been accused of so far by certain parties.

"If the funds were misused, like for political reasons or buying
votes, the IMF will not approveits credit to Indonesia," he
said.

He also said that based on the point of view of IMF interests,
this institution will prefer the cooperation with the present
government which has been well-known for its commitment.

In the statement, IMF first Deputy Managing Director, Stanley
Fisher, said that the executive directors welcomed the
performance improvement of the Indonesian Economy in recent
months and the strengthening signals of an incipient recovery in
real output.

They also welcomed the improvement in market confidence based on
both the successful election and implementation of the
Indonesian economic program.
