Holography News/IHMA Announce Awards; Nominations Open; Winners To Be Recognized at HoloPack-HoloPrint Conference

DENVER and LONDON, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Nominations are open for the 1999 Excellence in Holography Awards through October 1, 1999. The Awards, sponsored jointly by the International Hologram Manufacturers Association (IHMA) and Holography News(TM), recognize outstanding commercial applications of holography in packaging, security, printing, labeling and products. This year's winners will be recognized at the 10th Annual International HoloPack-HoloPrint Conference, Awards Dinner, on November 18, 1999, in Orlando, FL.

Holography is the fascinating three-dimensional imaging technology used to secure most of the world's credit cards and more than two dozen national currencies. It is one of the hottest new packaging materials and also helps to make the displays of millions of consumer electronic products (e.g. watches, cell phones, game boys, and portable computers) easier to read. HoloPack-HoloPrint is the annual international meeting of the world's leading manufacturers from this $1 Billion/year industry.

Each year, the IHMA and Holography News work together to identify the most outstanding commercial advances in the field and honors them at a gala Awards Dinner. Past winners include: Speedo Holographic Swim Goggles, and the Colgate Total® holographic toothpaste package, in 1998; a holographic lollipop, used to launch the New York Times color edition; and the American Express Travellers Cheque holographic security patch, in 1997.

Award categories include:

-- Security Application -- holography as part of a system to add security to a product or document, including overt and covert features.
-- Packaging Application -- holography as part of product package, including the design and integration of the holography and the effectiveness of the package.
-- Labeling Application -- holography in a labeling application.
-- Document Application -- holography in a document (excluding security printing).
-- New Holographic Product -- new use of holography as a component in a product.
-- Lifetime Achievement Award -- individual whose lifetime accomplishments have contributed most to the development of the field of holography.

Nominations are open until October 1, 1999. Forms may be obtained from the IHMA or Holography News. Selections will be made by a group of international judges. Finalists will be on exhibit at HoloPack-HoloPrint, from November 17-19, 1999, at the Orlando Marriott World Center, in Orlando, Florida.

This year, HoloPack-HoloPrint Conference will be held in conjunction with the world's first ever Effective Holographic Packaging Design Workshop, led by Kevin Williams, Pepperidge Farms and developer of the Colgate Total package; Allen Aldridge, Nabisco; and Chris Levine, iC Holographics, designer of Pink Floyd and Simply Red CD holographic covers.

The theme for this year's HoloPack-HoloPrint is ''$1 Billion a Year: How Much Further?'' With speakers, exhibitors and attendees from the Americas, Western and Eastern Europe, and Asia, this promises to be the best HoloPack-HoloPrint ever.

The IHMA is the international industry association of more than 60 of the world's leading hologram producers. Reconnaissance International, co-organizer, with Pira International, of the HoloPack-HoloPrint Conference, publishes Holography News.
