People NEED to go boating. :)

Gottfried,

You're right. There are 4 absolute necessities of life:

1. food
2. water
3. shelter
4. boating

Not necessarily in that order.

In fact, it could be that interest rate and declining dollar fears as mentioned in the articles would cause people to do nothing but go jump in their boats. So in that sense, maybe the bad news and bad vibes coming out of the national weekly magazines is good for boat business. <g>

It's interesting to me that we have the following "attractive" rating while consensus shows all "holds":

BancBoston Robertson Stephens issued a Company Report on July 28, 1999 for West Marine Inc..

On July 28, 1999 BancBoston Robertson Stephens analyst Alexandra Dal Pan issued a 4 page Company Report on West Marine Inc. Report highlights: 'The company posted 2Q99 earnings of $0.60, ahead of the $0.56 estimate. The upside was driven by lower-than-expected interest expense. July sales are proceeding according to plan. An ATTRACTIVE rating was maintained.' Report No.: F0098896
