jg, I follow the oil market, and I agree there is a close US-Saudi alliance against Iraq, but I think that is a minor factor compared to:

a) the regular 3-year oil investment cycle, and

b) the world economic crisis last year, which caused an unexpected demand drop, and also a supply increase because some of the countries worst hit were also major oil producers (Indonesia, Venezuela, Russia) and they were trying to boost revenues any way they could.
