Autoweb.com Introduces Direct-to-Consumer Auto Buying Service

Leading Automotive Service is First to Expand Consumer Choice

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Autoweb.com. (Nasdaq: AWEB),
the leading consumer automotive Internet service, announced today the
formation of a new direct-to-consumer auto buying service. Responding to
consumer demand, Autoweb.com will be the first to offer multiple auto buying
choices under one brand.
"As a veteran in the online automotive arena, we are continuously hearing
from consumers about ways in which they would like to use the Web to meet
their automotive needs," said Dean DeBiase, president and CEO of Autoweb.com.
"The combination of our popular dealer referral channel and our new
direct-to-consumer channel is designed to appeal to the emerging demands of
today's auto buyer, which include more choice in the auto buying experience."
The new direct-to-consumer channel will be offered on Autoweb.com in a
multi-state test market that begins August 30. Initially, visitors to
Autoweb.com will find either the dealer referral channel or the
direct-to-consumer channel, based on their location. A feature of the
direct-to-consumer channel includes a state of the art customer contact center
and highly trained Autoweb.com Advocates, who will handle the entire car
shopping experience for the consumer, including research, financing,
insurance, paperwork and delivery. As the direct-to-consumer channel is phased
in regionally over the next few months, the site will continue to add
functionality designed to handle increased direct commerce activity.
Autoweb.com is partnering with over 5,000 Member Dealers to fulfill
consumer demand for the direct-to-consumer channel. "Autoweb.com's Dealer
Advisory Board has played a key role in addressing the evolving automotive
Internet needs of our consumers," states Dean DeBiase, president and CEO,
Autoweb.com. "The new channel has been developed to provide the best consumer
experience and to anticipate the growing needs of our dealers to sell more
cars in partnership with Autoweb.com." This additional component strengthens
Autoweb.com's role as the leading consumer automotive Internet service, while
enhancing its relationship with its customers and Member Dealers.
