>In other words, are those who post their picks here, in sum, any better than throwing darts at a crumpled newspaper?<

I would say certain pickers have demonstrated an ability that far exceeds tossing darts....

But even dart throwers get to brag...

As a whole I would say that the group has not shown any exceptional capacity to outdo the indexes but we have not measured the group in that fashion at all. I could through the use of technical analysis moderate the picks to a certain degree and attempt to discourage investors from throwing money at picks which have simply run too far already.....

But I would be lying if I said I had any exceptional insight into exactly when a run will run out.

The intent of this thread is to give people a chance to share some brief due diligence and have some fun. If we make money we'll have fun. If not... we'll still have fun.

Thanks, Jeff

I don't think I have necessarily been fair to the stock pickers in this group in my earlier post. Take a look at the portfolio performance based on the weekly and monthly picks. Many of these stocks could have been traded to increase potential gains. Please read the post that follows and click on the portfolio URL's. Some of the monthly picks have some tremendous gains despite the horrible overall market trends:

EXPANDED WIRE TO WIRE CONTEST:

The rules are simple. The potential for gain on a daily basis is astonishing. Follow the contest and you will see. Enter to win bragging rights!

So do you have a stock you think will really fly today? Post your pick before the market opens as follows:

SYMBOL - Your name, or alias - estimated float of the stock - The closing bid and ask from the previous trading session.

Any additional information on the company and why you think it will fly during the next trading session will be welcomed by all. The winning stock pick will be judged by the percentage gain over the previous days closing price. In addition we have also started a weekly stock picking contest and starting in August of 1999 we will have a monthly contest as well. Weekly picks must be in by 5:00 PM ET Sunday evening. Monthly picks must be in by 5:00PM ET the evening prior to the beginning of the month.

Caution to all investors. Expect tremendous volatility in many of the stocks discussed here. Do not invest any money you cannot afford to lose. It is not necessary that you own a stock to enter it in the contest but please follow the rules in your post.
