John, I still don't see why you regard "Off Topic" posts (when so labelled) as wrong in themselves. They are wrong when they get personal -- but otherwise? Look, we all know we're supposed to post on topic, or else how would SI work at all. OT posts are a problem in direct proportion to how many of them there are. I think most people agree because when they post OT they either indicate that it's OT or apologize with something along the lines of "sorry to post off-topic, but . . . " People wouldn't feel guilty if they didn't think it was wrong.
