Dear Steve;

I believe that God is always glad to hear from you. In fact we are told to pray without ceasing. Do not judge the salvation or condemnation of anyone, all we can do is pray and trust God to deal justly in all situations. I can hear my Rabbi now, "Go ahead, pray. What could it hurt?

Steve,

I am not sure I am the person you are looking to hear from:-)

If one believes that God is all knowing and all powerfull(as you do)
then there are possibilities that you are not even capable of imagining. All things are possible. Your relatives are in good hands.

Mark

Steve,

Matt.19:24-26 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God." When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astounded and said, "Then who can be saved?" But Jesus looked at them and said, "For mortals it is impossible, but for God all things are possible."

Luke 8: 52-55 They were all weeping and wailing for her; but he said, "Do not weep; for she is not dead but sleeping." And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. But he took her by the hand and called out, "Child, get up!" Her spirit returned, and she got up at once.

John 11: 41-44Jesus looked upward and said, "Father, I thank you for having heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I have said this for the sake of the crowd standing here, so that they may believe that you sent me." When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!" The dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with strips of cloth, and his face wrapped in a cloth. Jesus said to them, "Unbind him, and let him go."

Romans 8:27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.

I am sure others will have better things to say than I could , but from the Word, I say pray.

Steve, your question isn't a new one and I will give an opinion of what I believe the scriptures have to say about this subject. First of all I don't find it directly saying anywhere that you should pray for those who already died. Quite the contrary, I do believe it is clear that God never intended us to do so. It's he who said man dies once and then is judged. Have you ever been exposed to Catholics that believe in a purgatory and say that prayers for the dead are essential for a safe and secure passage to heaven? If so then that's probably one of the places where you received the idea from. Can you honestly say you've read the bible from cover to cover, and without external influences find that God requires you to to be instrumental in saving those already dead?

If it's possible for men to be saved after they have died then why wouldn't Christ be praying for them? Do you believe all His prayers are answered? Do you believe it would be unjust of Him to have the ability to save a perishing soul but to refuse to do so? A man not born again shall not see the kingdom of Heaven. Jn: 3:3.

Once people die their eyes are suddenly open to reality, but alas then it's too late for them or anyone else to amend their past because now it's judgment time. In the days of Noah all the unbelievers suddenly became believers once the ark was shut and the rains descended. So does this mean God should have stopped the rains now that everyone believed?

Without faith it is impossible to please God.

We find that Saul connected himself to a witch in order to obtain guidance from the dead, we also find him dead the very next day because of this, and yet are you going to go beyond even that by attempting to redirect eternity for a dead man? Plot the course of a man who has already died in his sins towards the God who is the author of all life? You believe that you would be doing God a service in this manner? The next step would be to pray for the fallen angels! Why not, you've just set the precedence! Those notions IMO did not come from God!

The serpent on the pole in the wilderness was set up so that those who had been bitten should but look upon it and receive healing. Those who refused to look perished. People today must look to Christ on the cross if they want to be healed. If they cannot see him by faith for themselves and they die in their sins then there is no remedy.

Chris

Shalom Steve,
I hope your wife and children are all well. When my father died this year I was amazed at how many people shared with me that they had prayed for him. Then I realised that God is so big and the salvation of anyone is so important that He does not leave anything up to us but has everything well under control. I pray now to thank Him for loving my father more than I can comprehend and being such a Good Shepherd.
May the Lord Bless you and your house,
Nancy
