Wow - gays in the boy scouts - no cussing on airplanes though? Woman charged for cursing flight crew United Press International - August 11, 1999 10:00 Jump to first matched term BOSTON, Aug. 11 (UPI) - A Florida woman is facing criminal charges in Boston following the use of an expletive during a dispute with an American Airlines crew on a flight from Miami to Boston. Patricia Lemerise of Miami is charged with disorderly conduct for using the one-word expletive when she was unable to return to her seat because an attendant would not allow her to pass by a food cart in the aisle. Lemerise, who is to appear in East Boston District Court today, was also charged with interfering with a flight crew, but says she was provoked. The 28-year-old art dealer was on Flight 2040 Thursday from Miami to Boston's Logan International Airport when she left her window seat to roll up some artwork that had become crumpled during transport, according to today's Boston Globe. In doing so, she blocked flight attendants pushing the meal cart to the front of the plane. One attendant reportedly told Leremise to ''get her butt back in her seat, because if she gets stuck, that's her problem.'' Instead, Leremise walked to the first-class section waiting for the meal cart to pass her row. She said that three times she tried to walk down the aisle to pass the cart, but was blocked each time by the flight attendant. Frustrated, she returned to first class and said, ''I guess you're stuck with me for another f--- 20 minutes.'' A flight attendant told Leremise that the word she used was not allowed on the airliner. After Lemerise said she was just exercising her First Amendment rights, the flight attendant reported her to the pilot. An American Airlines spokesman, Mark Slitt, said the airline finds it ''intolerable'' when it ''gets to a point where passenger language makes a flight attendant feel threatened in some way, or abused in some way.'' By the time the plane landed at Logan, she had used the word a second time. State troopers arrested her as she got off.
