Here seems to be the situation with the Calimetrics TI announcement. Any technology of Calimetrics and ECD prior to the NIST agreement is owned by the individual company to do with as they please. Any technology that is created under the program for the specific goal of the program (DVD rewritable) is owned by the two companies. The technology that Calimetrics has licensed to TI for CD-RW was created by them prior to the NIST agreement or possibly during the program. Calimetrics has licensed their unique chipset to TI which is used to allow a laser to read and write on the multilayer media. ECD's role is the composition of the multilayer media. Bottom line is that TI's interest in these chipsets shows that there has been real progress in this important technology. I don't believe that TI would have licensed this technology unless they knew that ECD was going to license their media technology to someone that was going to evidently make the media. I hope I have confused everyone as much as I have confused myself.
