Re: "If you agree with this, when do you see K7 production to be comparable to an Intel part's production at introduction (factoring in relative production capacity, of course), and what do you see the relative performance to be at that time?"

The problem is that an AMD announcement is not a reliable predictor of a product. Consider AMD's position. They have been bleeding at a rate that is impossible to sustain without an infusion of cash. They sold their headquarters to raise cash to continue Jerry's pathological vendetta. More huge losses, so they sold Vantis. More huge losses. Nobody wants K6's and they can't seem to deliver MIA-thlons so blood is flowing at unsustainable rates. The CEO quit because in the final analysis he realized the company was going down the tubes. The fab manager at Dresden has quit.
Jerry is trying to hock 1/2 of the Dresden fab to raise some more cash and keep in business for a few more months. They will soon have to turn to another public offering to buy more of Jerry's "dope". In this environment, does it make sense to believe anything AMD says about the Athlon in regards to availability and manufacturability? I don't think so. However, giving AMD the benifit of the doubt, I would guess they will begin to ship volume in Q4. Intel's Coppermine will appear about the same time frame and it will be very competitive. Reliable sources claim it will be neck 'n neck in integer and only slightly behind in FP. All this assumes that AMD can actually produce the Athlon. A point that has not been established and it's continued absence seems to call into question.
