Larry... Gotta Run... But...

First, I'm not "cmf"... though I certainly enjoy his posts, as well.

As for the "microchip" reference. I need to ponder this a little bit. I find the reference evocative, but... If I take the next step with you, I would have to assume that WAVX is going to be CENTRAL to HP's entire e-services initiative. Now, for sure, I WANT to take that step. And, I think, if ever there ever were an organization (with the research smarts and sharp minds) to grasp the full import of EMBASSY, it would be HP. (I've dealt with some HP'ers.) HP isn't going to treat this opportunity as, in my opinion, IBM has. HP is now hungrier than it has been in a while. They're exploring new revenue models--i.e., transaction participation on the back-end rather than hardware sales on the front-end--which make you think about WAVE's "give it away in exchange for deployment and a cut" approach.

Short answer: heck if I know. But, I sure as heck like the idea. Now, do me a favor. Go back through a few of my old posts over the past week and find the U. S. Navy spokesperson's reference to a "trusted client" when he was talking about a new smart card initiative. I find it fascinating that he would just pull those words out of the ether... though I know that it in crytography/security circles it is not a wholly uncommon reference.

Thanks... and Best Regards,

c m

Larry/Barge...HP/Wave Chip connection comments...Go to hpconnect.com and if you have Acrobat Reader look at the slide show presentation listed on this page. There are 22 slides explaining the Versecure/Embassy system. On some of the slides (at least two that I saw) they show a chip that goes into the clients' PC or server. I do not recall what the chip is labeled but it has to be an Embassy/WaveMeter chip.

Let me know what you think after viewing the presentation.
