re, from SmartMoney: "MRV is selling off the division that makes fiber-optic components and optical cross-connects, which generates about 20% of revenue, and focusing on the NBase division, a networking-equipment subsidiary that accounts for the balance of revenue"

B: Linux a 'crucial component' claims new survey

AUG 11, 1999, M2 Communications - A new survey by the MERIT Project of
companies attending the CA-World 1999 annual user conference has found
that the Linux operating system is considered a crucial component to
many companies' enterprise computing strategies. Nearly 50% of survey
respondents indicated that Linux was important to their company's
development and in particular that the use of the system would be
extended beyond web server/ISP applications to also include network
management (40% of respondents), database management (39%), application
management (35%) and personal productivity (34%). The acceptance and
importance of Linux has been attributed to its reliability, efficiency
and low costs according to a MERIT spokesperson.
