SATX, Inc. Makes Move To Help Develop Telecommunications In Madagascar
TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- SATX, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: SATX - news), a communication technologies company, has become the chief investor in Digitel, Inc., an Oklahoma corporation which holds the only non-government license for telecommunications services and infrastructure in the African-region country of Madagascar. SATX signed a Letter of Intent with Digitel and placed an initial payment of US$200,000 in exchange for an undisclosed amount of stock and a seat on Digitel's Board of Directors.

Digitel currently operates an international gateway Earth station between the USA and the Malagasy Republic, connecting the country's communications with the rest of the world. The company is also currently in the process of obtaining a cellular license to provide the only CDMA cellular service in Madagascar with SATX's proprietary pre-paid cellular product, DebitFone. Additionally, it provides switching and microwave-based communications links to key businesses, military operations and the country's executive offices for both domestic and international traffic.

The Malagasy Republic, an Island nation formerly under French rule, boasts a population of more than 14 million, with more than 27 percent living in urban areas. French is the national language, and the primary industries are food processing, wood industry and by-products, textiles, farming and tourism.

''Madagascar is one of the world's fastest-emerging countries,'' said SATX Chairman and CEO Merritt Jesson. ''This is a massive project, and we do not intend to be the only player developing this infrastructure. We are talking to other significant telecommunications companies with hopes we can become partners in bringing Madagascar's telecommunications marketplace into the 21st Century and beyond.''
