RE: Intellectual Property

I believe I can save you a bit of time. The 1995 patent has to do with the process by which CheckFree can consolidate payments to the same merchant on the same day into a single transaction, and fold that into a risk/decisioning system to decide payment method.

This is a broad and very enabling patent. It enables CheckFree to consolidate payments to lower their cost. Also, it is formiddable barrier to entry, as processors must eventually face this problem once they reach a certain critical mass of transactions. CheckFree to Intuit Services Corporation to task for infringement shortly after it was issued, and prevailed.

Hope this helps.
