Communications Portaltm Enables Integrated Voice and Data Services Over Digital Subscriber Lines (DSL)

Communications Portal Enables Integrated Voice and Data
Services Over Digital Subscriber Lines (DSL)

AURORA, ILLINOIS and YEHUD, ISRAEL... (April 27,
1999)...Westell Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: WSTL)
announced today a partnership with AudioCodes in the
development of an integrated access device (IAD), the
Communications Portal. The Communications Portal,
expected to be available in the third quarter of 1999, will
deliver multi-line voice, fax and high-speed data over a
single copper loop using Digital Subscriber Line (DSL).
AudioCodes is providing a four-channel voice over packet
processor for the Communications Portal, which, coupled
with a DSL multiplexer and gateway, will provide end-users
with a combined solution of high-speed data and above-toll
quality voice services.

The Communications Portal will provide end-users with an
easy-to-use solution that can be quickly integrated into their
current network. The Communications Portal enables a
business to obtain any combination of voice, fax and
high-speed data services consolidated over one DSL line.
These features are integrated into a single multi-service box
located at the customer's premises. This new IAD is
expected to assist incumbent local service providers, long
distance carriers and competitive service providers change
their economic model, maximize their copper plant, attack
the sub-T1 market and provide a migration strategy to Next
Generation networks.

"The Communications Portal can increase the value to a
small business by providing a totally integrated solution. It
combines call features and call routing, with data routing,
and peripheral sharing into a single solution located at the
business premise," stated Marc Zionts, Westell's CEO. "We
expect that the Communications Portal will be embraced by
the traditional ILEC and CLEC channels, and will be
particularly attractive to the voice and data LECs and next
generation telcos as well. Westell has chosen to work with
AudioCodes because of their highly functional voIP
capabilities and quality voice coders. We are very
impressed with the AudioCodes technology and the support
they have provided us in this development."

Westell plans to pursue interoperability agreements with
established DSLAM and gateway vendors as it brings the
Communications Portal to market.

"We are pleased to be working with Westell to integrate
AudioCodes voice compression and IP Telephony
technology into the Westell Communications Portal." stated
Bruce Gellman, AudioCodes vice president of U.S.
marketing and sales. "Westell is an innovator of DSL
technology with significant field deployment experience.
WestellÕs DSL experience and products in combination
with AudioCodes award winning technology, allows the
companies to bring together key technologies that are
critical to the future success of high end IAD edge
equipment."

"Westell's Communications Portal is one more example of
cutting-edge applications that are being empowered by
AudioCodes' new generation of Voice over Packet DSP's,"
said AudioCodes' CEO, Shabtai Adlersberg. We look
forward to deploying this product with Westell in this exciting
new market space".

The Communications Portal, which will run Voice over
Internet Protocol (VOIP) will be interoperable and fully
compatible with a variety of DSLAMs currently deployed in
the marketplace today. The Communications Portal
integrates emerging technology developments in voice over
Internet Protocol, xDSL and ATM, with legacy technologies
to enable a powerful, flexible solution. AudioCodes offers its
voice compression and voiceband signal processing
capabilities to complement Westell's transmission, data and
systems integration expertise.
