The Communications Portal enables a business to obtain any combination of voice, fax and high-speed data services consolidated over one DSL line. This new IAD is expected to assist incumbent local service providers, long distance carriers and competitive service providers change their economic model, maximize their copper plant, attack the sub-T1 market and provide a migration strategy to Next Generation networks. "The Communications Portal can increase the value to a small business by providing a totally integrated solution. It combines call features and call routing, with data routing, and peripheral sharing into a single solution located at the business premise," stated Marc Zionts, Westell's CEO. "We expect that the Communications Portal will be embraced by the traditional ILEC and CLEC channels, and will be particularly attractive to the voice and data LECs and next generation telcos as well. Westell plans to pursue interoperability agreements with established DSLAM and gateway vendors as it brings the Communications Portal to market.
