Adding new features from the beta version such as viewing 10 messages at a time to the Original SI should definitely be the best of both worlds for SI members (some use the Coke analogy - "Classic" and I guess I use the KFC slant - "Original" <gg>). If the Original site incorporates some of the Extra Crispy site's new functions <gg>, then will SI be running 2 betas at once or are there plans to go directly to production? Also, IMO, if a few minor features from the Original need to go then it seems like a small sacrifice to please the masses.

I'm wondering how many members will then stick to the Original SI version with the new customizable options rather than migrate to the new site? New members might use the new site if that's the default and there are current members who have stated they prefer the new, but I'm just curious as to what the projections would be for traffic on the two interfaces? Also, would both sites continue to be supported regardless of the traffic on either option should it turn out that the vast majority end up on one site or the other? Cost-effectiveness shouldn't be an issue since both options would be on the new interface as the Original SI would be an option and not a unique site, right?

Looks like a great compromise which speaks to the comments regarding whether or not SI management cares about its members.

Just don't start with a third option, please... "Tender Roast" or whatever. <gg> Don't think I could stand another debate on the interface!

Hmmm... it happens to be lunchtime here... what a coincidence!

That is reassuring, Bryan. I never looked at the "Bull and Bear" survey, anyway, so I personally will not regret its passing.

What about BrowseMaster?

Here's what I liked about the old, classic SI:

When I'd hit [next] to see the next post .... I could begin reading it immediately.

NOW ... I have to click [down] on the mouse 5x before I can start reading most posts. [Or keep mouse button depressed for equivalent amount of time.] My finger's getting sore with all of this unnecessary mouse-clicking.

There's only 6" of usable space (top-bottom) on my monitor, within the Netscape window. That d*mn toolbar, with stuff I don't need or am interested in .... takes up 3" of that usable space!

I'm constantly scrolling down to read what's of interest to me. Before, anytime a page came up - everything important to me was at the forefront. Not anymore.

And, where's that "Search within Subject" option? I used that a lot. I can't find anything anymore.

I'm wasting a LOT of time with this Beta site.

And I'm tired of having to re-submit messages, because I get an error message ... and can't get them posted.

PLUS ... when I searched, using the keyword "chicago" for something I posted ... my post didn't come up. A lot of other posts with the word "chicago" came up. But, not mine. So, I had to waste more time going back to scan all of my past posts to figure out where it was. [And "chicago" was right in the middle of the post. Why, didn't it come up?]

AND sometimes someone posts a link to another SI post, which I'm unable to access [while others can], and all I get is an error message. Real frustrating.

SUBJECT MARKS format wastes a lot of space. Before I could easily see almost all of the subjects I bookmarked. Now I have to keep on pressing that d*mn mouse again to scan down. I don't care what category my subject is in. Why is it necessary to have it listed on the subject line, and take up more space? I'd rather be able to view more subject lines at one time ... like we were able to on the old SI.

I've heard the suggestion, that to get back to the old, classic SI, use:
talk.techstocks.com

Well, it doesn't work for me!

I dislike this new SI beta site with a passion. The only thing I like about it is the option to scan 10 posts at a time.

Cheryl

YEAH! I got into the old, classic SI thru home page on that Beta site.
