Weekly Jobless Claims = +4k to 284k

In the week ending Aug. 7, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 284,000, an increase of 4,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 280,000. The 4-week moving average was 288,250, a decrease of 6,750 from the previous week's unrevised average of 295,000.

Retail Sales for July = +0.7%

The Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce announced today that advance estimates of U.S. retail sales for July adjusted for seasonal, holiday, and trading-day differences, but not for price changes, were $248.7 billion, an increase of 0.7 percent (±0.7%) from the previous month and up 9.1 percent (±0.9%) from July 1998.

Export Prices for July = -0.2%
