Would you mind posting the whole article? I don't have access to theStreet.com and it seems relevant to the thread.

thanks.

Thread,

I'm not sure how this got off track, but Citrix never indicated, in the least, that they were interested in becoming either an ASP or a provider of any type of application beyond their MetaFrame delivery platform.

I've listened to them pretty carefully and in no uncertain terms, during Q1 CC, they said they don't even see any significant revenues from the ASP market in the near term. Plus, from what I recall, the ASP market was not even discussed in Q2's CC.

I think at this point, there is not a whole lot to talk about in regards to CTXS participating in the ASP market. I wish there was <G>.

Now the ASP market itself (independent of CTXS), for some reason seems to be getting a lot of press lately. I don't quite understand it because as David pointed out, it's a very expensive business to get into. Once you do all the capital spending, how much is a customer going to be willing to pay for application rental?

I've hit a few ASP sites and I'm quite surprised at how much they are asking per seat, per month, for some off the shelf applications. I remember thinking...."At that rate, you could purchase a brand new PC for every user, every six months. So if you have a problem, just chuck the entire PC in the dumpster and get your employee a new system." <G>

Nonetheless, I'm hoping something comes out of it that is positive news for CTXS. But so far I have nothing beyond the initial press releases and few comments made in CTXS's Q1 CC. The rest has just been a lot of speculation.

There's one reason I would not invest in an ASP. It's a five-letter word: Intel.

Intel's server farms and their humongous amount of cash can literally crush the USinternetworkers of the world. I would be shocked to learn that Intel doesn't already have a strategy about that. They're probably waiting for the industry to evolve to a more substantial point before they go after it. If nothing else, Intel has to wait until they get the huge server farms up and running.
