I believe that this press release should answer many of your questions regarding his background.

"Steve's background, which has crossed several of the industries driving the Internet, has made him the ideal candidate to develop new business opportunities and revenue streams that will capitalize on the resources and assets of the Mecklermedia Corporation," commented Meckler.

Before joining Mecklermedia, Harmon was Senior Investment Analyst at Jupiter Communications, a New York City-based Internet research firm from 1995 to 1996. During his tenure, he initiated and reported on investment coverage of the Internet and media industries by creating and tracking five focused stock indices that covered more than 90 media, Internet and technology companies that are publicly traded. Harmon also authored the report, "Internet Investment Outlook 1996," which outlined the key players, trends, growth, strategies and battles emerging in the Internet sector.

From 1994 to 1995, Harmon was a media financial analyst for Paul Kagan Associates, a prominent Wall Street media and telecommunications investment company. In that position, he covered the Internet/online, broadcast, print and interactive multimedia industries which included the major companies (now public) that have defined the Internet including Netscape, Spyglass, Mecklermedia, Netcom, PSINet and UUNet. Harmon also authored several media forecasts and projections on the growth of the commercial Internet.

I think Jupiter communications qualifies as a research firm.
