I think the world of the iBook and I think for those that need portability, it would be a fairly easy sell. But the iBook and eOne are apples (no pun) and oranges. And the iBook costs twice as much. The iBook is not a desktop replacement. It's gettin' there, but it ain't there yet. From my POV, it's the screens that are still lacking (though they are getting pretty good). But no matter how you cut it, a 12" TFT is not a 15" CRT....not yet.
I actually believe that Apple's strongest position lay in the future of portable devices (including laptops), owing mainly to the power consumption/performance gap that exists between Intel CISC and PPC RISC/Copper architecture. The iBook is quiet (no fan), cool and powerful. I doubt that eMachines (or anybody else) will have an answer to the iBook. But the iMac is another matter.
