This issue is a symantic one. Anyone who follows anything can label themselves an analyst... There are tech analysts, news analysts, industry analysts, political analysts....etc. However, to be an "equity research analyst," one must be sponsered by a qualified financial institution (bd license, principal.. series 7/63 etc). Like I said earlier, there is a big difference between identifying tech trends and their impacts on companies and recommending stocks. I don't care what steve recommends, these people are not his clients and he is under no fiduciary duty here (there is absolutely no cause to involve any regulatory authority here whatsoever). These are simply his opinions, we can take them or leave them. I have been reading Steve's work for a while and I appreciate his insights into emerging internet technologies. However, I have often disagreed strongly with his recommendations and financial analysis (or lack thereof), but that is my perogative. For my own sake, I simply wanted to know what category of "analyst" he falls under.
