Morgan, you are not the only one who should be doing their own DD. We all should. Don't be so hard on yourself. At least you can acknowledge a mistake, unlike quite a few folks. I missed that little tidbit of news also. Was it ever posted here? Oh well, such is the game.

BTY!

Morgan, this is the first evidence of their cancellation that I can find anywhere. Do you find the news anywhere else?

Morgan,

I suppose there will be a dozen or more ways to
hold the report up against the light and look at it,
but honestly, I can't help thinking that a $20 mil
buyback (less than a million shares now) is that big a
deal, given the kind of churn we have been seeing.
So I'm not too concerned about that.

I understand we can say that we've lost faith in the
management etc., but its one of those things, I guess.
We just don't know all, and its always a problem.
They feel they know what to do with the money.

The buyback was approved on October 1998.
The buyback was cancelled on July 21, 1999.

They had *plenty* of time to buy cheap last year, if they
*really* wanted to. Perhaps they never really intended
to, and it was only a signal to the investors at the time.

Just wondering, as always :)

Joseph

Morgan,

I'm just speculating, but cancelling the program may just serve to facilitate pooling acquisitions. The analysts have suggested that NITE would consolidate its market position.

Accordingly, I will now look to exit my longer term *investment* positions in NITE

I, for one, will miss your extremely insightful posts if/when you stop posting upon liquidating your NITE investment.

Beyond that, I don't see the cancellation of the stock repurchase program as something that would warrant the closure of this investment. NITE was trading somewhere between 2 and 5 last October when the buy-back was announced. While the stock has now been hammered down to 32 (and was considerably higher when the buy-back program was cancelled back on July 21), that is nothing compared to a price of about 5. Things change. Anyway, with a forward p.e. of 15 on a company with fairly rapidly growing revenues, I think the stock will take care of itself. No buyback needed.
