Your missing what is important here.

Everyone loves to hate MS and with good reason.
Linux is a better OS than Win9x or NT. It's a bit harder
to learn and use for now, but that will change. Linux is
getting better and stronger every day. Right now Linux
is steadily eating away at the server market share of
MS and will continue to do so.

Where Red Hat comes in is simple. They make it
painless to aquire and use Linuz. Everything you need
is on a couple of CD's. You also get full and up to date
documentation as well as techinical support. Sure you
can download it for free if you want. When is the last
time YOU tried to download over 700 megs? How
many days can you spare? what is you lose your
connection along the way or get some bad data
packets? Sure you can buy the $1.89 CD copy, but
what are you going to do for support and
documentation? You going spend days downloading
that too? How much paper you have handy? Is that
downloaded documentation accurate to your Kernel
build?

Red Hat is doing well and will continue to do well
because they have taken a very good operating
system, sorted out the best parts, documented it,
apckaged it with killer applications and provide
technical support. Exactly what a business wants. No
corporation is going to download an unsupported and
undocumented version even if they could do it just a
few hours over a T3 line. Also note that Red Hat has
great PR and marketing going for it now. The same
thing that put Windows ahead of the MAC OS which
happens to be better than Windows.

It does not matter that there are others out there doing
the same thing. NOBODY knows who they are.
RedHat has all the tech backing and the others don't.
Even if they get some they will always be trying to play
catch up to RedHat the same way Prodigy & MSN
keep trying and FAILING to catch up with AOL. Now
AOL su*kc , but they are still out front.

I firmly believe RedHat is here to stay and their stock
will be next Amazon.com

Just wait till they have a version that is simple enough
to put on a personal PC for home use that the average
Joe can use.
