Hi Harry,

IBM gets in on a multi-company effort to bring up yet another operating system on IA64/Merced:

IBM joins group adapting Linux for new Intel design

By Therese Poletti

SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug 10 (Reuters) - IBM has joined a group of other companies that
are developing a version of the Linux operating system to run on Intel Corp.'s
next-generation chip design, bolstering a major commercial effort to advance an
emerging rival to Microsoft software.

International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM - news) is the latest to join a
project called Trillian, announced a few months ago. The move will team IBM with
two of its rivals -- Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE:HWP - news) and SGI (NYSE:SGI - news) -- as well as VA
Linux Systems Inc., a developer of computers running Linux, and Cygnus Solutions, a developer of software tools
for Linux and other systems.
