We've seen many instances in which Y2K tests have resulted in "nuisance" failures.

I think it's important to keep in mind what is the most likely result when a Y2K test fails: the test is aborted, and the testers simply return to the old system...which works! Voila! No more problems!

In other words, we shouldn't be too complacent about the fact that the "nuisance effect" lasts for only a few hours or days....we should instead ask

1) was the new system fixed and re-tested?
2) was the re-test successful?
OR
3) are you continuing with the old system while you figure out what to do with the new system and, if so
4) when will you test the new system? and, of course
5) what will you do if it fails? Time's a-wasting....

And here I thought it was just the Beige book report that sent the market into rally mode this afternoon.

Little did I realize it was the MCI/CBOT system coming back on line... :0)
