Hey I saw some really good movies this week. I know you don't watch a lot of movies but Celebrity by Woody Allen is really good. Thoughtful and since Woody isn't actually in it, I found it to be less typically anal Allen than Allen movies that actually have ALlen in them. Brannagh does his best Woody impression but he is a lot less annoying than the real thing and much more pathetic- which actually worked here.

Velvet Goldmine- excellent movie. Set in the world of Glam Rock. This is a totally original movie- lots of surrealistic twists.

Shakespeare in Love- over rated. Not that it is bad, it isn't. But I found myself wishing I could see the fine cast do Romeo and Juliet instead of digressing constantly from the play to do the twitty lines of the movie. So since I kept thinking that, I have to figure the movie wasn't all that it could have been. It is always a danger writing lines around Shakespeare- the other lines hardly ever measure up- which is what happened here.
