Novell Latest to Sign Up With AOL's Instant Messenger,
WSJ Says

Bloomberg News
August 12, 1999, 3:12 a.m. PT

Provo, Utah, Aug. 12 (Bloomberg) -- Novell Inc. plans to
make America's Online Inc.'s instant messenger software work with
its Novell Directory Services program, becoming the latest
company to sign up to use the service, the Wall Street Journal
said. AOL wants to make its instant messenger, which is used by
43 million people to conduct private online chats in real time,
more prevalent in the workplace. The two companies will also
create a special version of AOL Instant Messenger designed for
Novell software users, the Journal reported.

AOL, the largest online service, and Microsoft Corp., the
world's No. 1 software maker, are battling over instant
messaging, or real-time e-mail, with Microsoft wanting free
access to AOL instant messaging users and AOL demanding payment
for such access.
