I have a CFA, but you don't have to have one to be an analyst.

Many analysts at major firms don't have their CFA.

If you are an equity analyst at a broker/dealer, you generally need a Series 7 and 63. CFAs are optional although the AIMR has been trying to get them accepted in lieu of some of the other requirements.
