RHAT is NOT selling software. Linux is already in the public domain. You could download the OS in its entirety from the net.

However, unless you're an ultra-geek you would find it all but impossible to get it up and running, and the only support would be from other ultra-geeks in various bulletin boards.

What RHAT does is take public domain software (Linux), package it, provide easy installation utilities for common hardware platforms, and provide customer support for the product.

Essentially they are providing support and service for something which can be obtained for free. That makes for a very interesting business model, but I think the jury is out on how profitable it can be.
