oversupply of corporate debt is one of the reasons, yes. the budget however was in surplus last time i looked.
i know about the theory that states that asset price inflation (i.e. higher stock prices) will spill over into the 'real' economy. however,it hasn't happened so far, probably due to world wide overcapacities.
imo we are merely witnessing a pause before the global deflationary trends reassert themselves once more.
