MediaOne Labs and Philips Broadband Networks have successfully tested a new broadband DWDM system that delivers 20 optical wavelengths, each capable of carrying 200 MHz of 256 QAM channels. Yes, that's 4 GHz of bandwidth on a single fiber.

This was a 5 month test. Unique to the system was automatic optical switches for redundancy and reliability. That's something that's been missing from DWDM systems previously. Lots of excitement about DWDM capabilities and bandwidth expansion in cable right now.
