Servers are an area where AAPL's needs help , maybe "fake" buying SGI help The PowerPC partnership may hurt AAPL here as IBM seems to covet the server chips . IBM just bought Sequent for server technology (read customers) so maybe AAPL should think (read SGI/Intergraph) like Blue . Might just shake some of those IBM PowerPC chips loose so AAPL can market a decent server . Somebody like the SGI/HP server CEO guy (or Ex-Tamden CEO Roel Pieper) could sure give AAPL's server business a running start . Here's AAPL's Seybold exhibit info - bland (OS 9?) as usual: "(AAPL) ... demonstrations of leading edge products and technologies for the new millennium, including the most powerful Power Macintosh, iMac and PowerBook computers ever built. Technology demos will feature the latest publishing-focused technologies including Mac OS 8.6, ColorSync (color management), AppleScript (workflow automation) and rich, dynamic media creation with QuickTime. Powerful server products based on Mac OS X server and AppleShare IP 6.2 will be on display, as well as the latest USB and FireWire peripherals and the hottest new publishing applications. " 207.66.106.35 Last year's Seybold was to have a server "shoot out" but never heard of the results . Hopefully AAPL will have at least a speed bumped (580mz) PowerPC server in one of its TWO booths . A IBM/MOT G4 would be nicer and like Paul Ferguson added: >>" My guess is that if your guess is correct, the app that will be used to highlight the capabilities of the new box will be 2-way, real-time, multipoint, voice, video and data networking. "<< Seybold is the right venue and AAPL needs to address the server market. Jim K. PS: Rich , IBM has a Power4 (not G4 but generation 4 ???) which is not currently destined for AAPL . IBM stated it was reviewing its rejection of MOT's AltiVec G4 and that was the basis for my speculating on a "IBM/MOT" G4. There is a "Hot Chips" conference coming and IBM promised more info. No need to wait though , so kick start your Harley and enjoy your vacation .
