It's true though... MSFT almost never has the best software... they simply put everything that is second best together in the "best" package. This is SOOOO true. Open source development will always be a thorn in Microsoft's side. It will never kill Microsoft, but that doesn't mean it won't hurt more and more over a long period of time. People wonder about Linux and Open Source. How good can the software be? I'll give you my favorite example. One of the biggest sites on the Internet used to be cdrom.com. It was a great place to download software. It used to run 450 concurrent users on a pentium I 200mhz computer. And it did so for over 2 years without a single failure. Granted it didn't use Linux. It used a LESSER known, open source, operating system. Give Linux another 2 or 3 years and the applications on it will probably rival Microsoft. So I would say that the future of Linux is quite good. The question is, will RHAT be able to maintain a leader of the pack status on something it doesn't own. They will probably have a nice ride for a year or so, as much of their current competition is in the form of non-profit organizations. JB
