In this day of awareness of discrimination, it always catches my eye when I run across a case of discrimination based on age.

Best wishes,

Wally M: RE: <IBD 8/12/99 editorial "IN WASHINGTON< TAX CUTS = SPENDING - Page A24)

If you're feeling a little too air conditioned today and want your blood to heat up to a boil, read the subject editorial. It describes the thinking behind the ultimate flat tax - 100% of what you make - simple two line Form 1040.

According to the editorial, Washington believes it owns EVERY DIME we taxpayers earn. They see tax cuts as just another government expenditure like welfare payments and payments to contractors building invisible planes that are not invisible. They see "lost revenues" as simply the difference between the amount of tax collected, and what would have been collected if some politicians had their way - a cost to Washington. UNBELIEVABLE ! ! ! !

Hi Wally. As resident Y2k guru <g>, check this out.

"WASHINGTON, DC -- The chair of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) said today that six nuclear power plants in the United States will remain unprepared for possible Year 2000 computer problems after November 1, and according to the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), at least three of those plants have Y2K readiness deadlines in mid-December. Also identified by NEI were 16 additional plants with deadlines in late October."

And how about this:

"WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senators Robert F. Bennett (R-Utah), Chairman of the Senate Special Committee on the Year 2000 (Y2K) Technology Problem, and Christopher J. Dodd (D-Conn.), Vice-Chair, noting a "lack of knowledge regarding the Y2K progress being made in preparing companies and others that manufacture, store, transport, or use toxic or hazardous materials in large quantities," today urged the White House to convene a special chemical safety summit to assess and improve the Y2K readiness of the chemical industry.

"The Y2K bug has the potential to disrupt the operation, transport, maintenance, and control activities at chemical facilities," the Senators said. "We rely on these systems to ensure our citizens enjoy a safe and healthy environment. A White House summit will help us better understand what the industry is doing to keep those safeguards in place."

Is there a Y2K concern?? Do these guys (the senators) know what's going on any better than the Congressmen who questioned Greenspan??

Best wishes,

I2
