I think a good way to look at the internet at this point is by analogy to the cable channel industry--you have your premium channels (HBO and Showtime) and you have your bundled channels (Lifetime etc. It would have been a disaster years ago to do away with the monthly charge that ISPs have, but advertising and the ability to steer $$ to etailers--ala Etoys/AOL is changing the economic equation. These other sources of revenues will pick-up as monthly ISP fees begin to wane. So AOL source of growth in the future is to grow the internet market generally, to grow it's alternative sources of revenues, and to expand internationally.
