Joseph,
I have found that if you read all the news and analysis and make a rational, logical decision to buy or sell a stock based on the info. you have available and then actually DO THE OPPOSITE, you'll be better off most of the time.
If you can't force yourself to do this (it's very hard for me) then the only way to win is to be a long term investor in bellwhether stocks. This way when you buy into all the hype and the stock tanks after earnings you just wait for the next cycle of hyping going into the next earnings report.

I had all my gains wiped out in AUG,SEP,OCT last year, so I'm very suspicious of the market right now, especially with rates backing up to 6.27%. I think we'll get a rally after the Fed hikes rates AUG 24. The market will probably think that's it for rate hikes for '99 and rally going into the OCT earnings. So I'm keeping my powder dry and waiting for rates to start behaving. When they settle down I'll probably be back buying but I'll be buying SCH instead of NITE.

After I lost all my gains last OCT, I took everything I had left and all the margin I could get and bought AOL at $75 the day Greeny cut rates in NOV. The stock split 2:1 and I wound up selling it at $127 a couple of months ago. So I still have hope that we can rally into Christmas and recoup some of the gains I had earlier.
Regards, Lee
