More info on it: Duramed Pharmaceuticals Inc. (DRMD) rose 1 3/16, or 12 percent, to 11 3/16 and traded as high as 12 3/8. The generic drug-maker said it won U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval to sell a generic version of brand-name oral birth-control pills currently sold by Johnson & Johnson and Dutch drugmaker Akzo Nobel NV. The FDA approval clears Duramed to enter the contraceptive market and makes it the first company to offer a less expensive generic alternative to J&J's Ortho-Cept, and Desogen Tablets, made by Akzo's Organon unit.
