Gustave is a fan of the anarchist Bob Black, whose most famous essay is titled The Abolition of Work. I think Gustave spends his days reading esoteric pamphlets and anarchist tracts. Which isn't to say I don't appreciate his astute observations on our moribund culture.

Re: That reminds me, I asked him what his profession is, and he hasn't addressed that question yet. I'm curious to know the reason why.
C Kahn

I know just how you feel, C Kahn (BTW, is this your real first name? I mean, just 'C'??)! It's quite frustrating for down-to-earth-number-cruncher book-keepers (you're an accountant, aren't you?) like you not to get the 'real thing'. But, believe me, (partial) anonymity is the name of the game --over the internet, that is. Take MNI for instance: such a smart aleck declined to tell me how much he's paid to snoop around SI --not to speak of his actual job title. And it's the same with TD --although such a gruff nudnik's likely a retired shoeshiner with a screw loose....
But how'bout all the others? Most member profiles are incomplete --and even though every SI member would obligingly fill in his/her profile form, how could you be sure it's not jazz all over??

Keep the faith.... Quodcumque ostendis mihi sic, incredulus odi.

Gustave.
