Can you give us a timeline on a realistic installation schedule?

Although my exposure to SAP is fairly limited, I will attempt to answer this question. If anyone on this thread has SAP expertise, maybe they can add their experience to this answer.

A simple generic installation of one SAP module (A/P, A/R, Inventory Management, etc...) will probably require 6 - 15 months. A lot will depend on the level of customization required and complexity of data conversions.

When Mobil Oil installed SAP several years ago, I believe they had a 2 to 7 year installation plan. They were installing it one module at a time and customizing the code to fit their needs.

The inventory management modules were scheduled to be installed over a 2 year period. Of course, Mobil was doing some customization of the base system and had to convert their current data over to the SAP system.

An additional problem with SAP is the lack of expertise in SAP. There are only a few good SAP experts. If you add training to the schedule, you can expect schedule slippage to occur.

I am sorry I can't give you more accurate information, but my knowledge of SAP is limited. If I run across some of people that I worked with on the SAP installation, I will ask them how things went.
