FYI, there are many things that were acceptable in your generation that are considered offensive to mine. to address someone as " hey, girlie" is one of them.

Agreed. I also thought the way "girlie" was used was offensive and deprecating.

As for previously acceptable terms, I'll never forget how that governor from Kentucky (I believe), claimed that calling blacks "pick-a-ninnies" was a term of endearment.

The first rule of communications is "It's not what you meant to say, but what the other person perceived you said".

There is entirely too much personal crap flying on this thread.
