Fed, I have been baffled by Merill Lynch for the longest time and everytime I talk with them they have a good excuse or say that it is an opinion which may change at some point in the future. I mean how can you argue as they know what to say but look at the havoc it causes in the market place. I mean a lot of people out there are really furious as they feel totally manipulated. It just is not right to do this. I don't know of anyone who is making any money these days except the stock brokerage firms. I do not day trade btw or I would be pulling my hair out. I hope that investors will not bail out of Dell the day that the earnings come out??

FEZ -
RE: He is pushing network appliances. Didn't Oracle try that and fall on their face.

You are thinking of Network Computers or NCs. The network appliance is a very different animal - it is a dedicated machine to do one job but do it exceptionally well and at a very low cost both from an installation and maintenance standpoint. Examples are appliances for web caching, firewalls, and small business file server work.

CPQ has a slight lead in this category but DELL has been working closely with Intel on an integrated design and will not be left at the gate.

Most people looking at the appliance market see it as some incremental revenue and some cannibalization of existing server sales, but on balance probably not a negative revenue impact.

Expect CPQ and DELL to be big leaders in this space, HP and IBM slower to get there. I can't imagine why this would be a negative for DELL.
