Visitors to AltaVista's local portals can now take advantage of Talk City's network of communities, spanning topical categories, popular themes and thousands of user-generated communities, where they can enjoy such services as moderated chat, home pages, special event production, message boards and online event guides.
To further increase ease of access, users of Compaq Presario personal computers are now able to access these co-branded communities directly by pressing the ``People' key on their Presario keyboards. Presario users will be routed directly to the community area of an AltaVista partner's local portal serving their geography, or to My AltaVista, a service that offers users customizable local news, business directories, mapping services, entertainment listings and shopping guides, located at my.av.com. These community areas will offer the full complement of Talk City offerings, including thousands of moderated chat rooms, hundreds of thousands of home pages, personals, polls, discussion boards, and other community services.
The Talk City and AltaVista co-branded communities are expected to go live in the fourth quarter of 1999.
